People ask me all the time what my favorite wine is. This is an impossible question for me to answer, because it depends factors such as my mood or what I’m eating BUT the biggest factor affecting what I’m likely to be drinking is undoubtedly the weather. For instance, you won’t catch me drinking a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon in July on an 110˚ day. Conversely, you probably won’t catch me drinking a frothy white on one of the two days in the SC winter when it’s 30˚. What I decided to do for the next two tastings is present what I like to call “Summer Stunners,” or thirst-quenching wines you should drink and/or stock up on for the ungodly, wretchedly hot months that are getting ready to follow.
Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:30- Summer Stunners hosted by Judah Cannon from AdVintage
Judah will host the first installment and will be pouring gems like Gurratxaga Txakolina Rosado, a spritzy pink from the Basque region of Spain, Manta Sauvignon Blanc from the Casablanca Valley in Chile and Hugues Beaulieu Picpoul de Pinet from Languedoc, Crios Torrontes from Argentina, Heron Pinot Noir and Cortenova Primitivo from Veneto. Chef Matt will be preparing a chilled summer Gazpacho with Grilled Shrimp to pair with the whites and some Smoked Paprika Roasted Pork with Salsa Verde and Roasted New Potatoes. Cost for this delicious evening is only $28 ($23 for Wine Club Members and Wine Goddesses in their t-shirts). Call us at 799-VINE (8463) for reservations.
Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30- Summer Stunners Part Two hosted by Tony McNeill from Southern Wine and Spirits
Part Two will follow the same theme, by hopping all over the globe to bring you the best of the best! Tony will be pouring:
Mionetto Prosecco, Italy (I could drink this by the bucket…k)
Domaine Ott “Le Domanier,” France 2007
Etude Rose, Carneros 2007
Molly Dooker “Violinist” Verdelho, Australia 2008
Georges DuBoeuf “Quartre Vents,” Fleurie 2007
XY Zin 10 year, CA 2007 (burger-grillin’ wine!)
For the meal, we’ll be doing a beautiful, chilled soup I had in Bulgaria called Tarator, which is soup-like version of the Greek tzaziki sauce…creamy cucumber with fresh herbs…for the whites and Grilled Petit Filet Mignon with Caramelized Onion Jam over creamy mashed potatoes for the reds. Cost for this delicious evening is only $33 ($28 for Wine Club Members and Wine Goddesses in their t-shirts). Call us at 799-VINE (8463) for reservations.
Saturday, June 13th from 8AM-Noon: LOCAL, ORGANIC FARMERS MARKET Join us in supporting organic, South Carolina agriculture as local organic farmers will be on hand selling the fruits of their labor. We'll have fresh veggies, fresh dairy, locally-raised beef and pork and a whole lot more!
We'll also be serving their All-Local, All-Organic Farmers Breakfast featuring Wil-Moore Farms Eggs, Anson Mills Grits and Caw Caw Creek Pork Sausage Links for only $4. Come early to get the best stuff and remember that we usually end breakfast at around 10:30. After all, no self-respectin' farmer could call a meal after 10:30 'breakfast'. Heck, most farmers eat 'brunch' before 9!
