ITALY 2007 or... A Journey to the Heart of Culinary Mediocrity Okay, let me tell you right from the start, I travel a lot. I've been a traveler since I was 19 and got my first taste of the world courtesy of Uncle Sam. I've traveled to LOTS of different countries spread across this great planet. I've eaten the local foods and immersed myself in their cultures. I make a conscious effort to NOT be a tourist. So, what does this have to do with Italy? Well, since it's a culinary mecca on par with France, I saved going there until just recently in hopes of being blown away by the rich culinary traditions I've read about for so many years. Was I rewarded for the wait? In a word: no. Actually, from a culinary standpoint, it was a really disappointing trip. There were a few bright, shining moments, but nothing that made my Top Ten Meals list. Not even close. I'll add to this as I get my thoughts together...
